An Overview And The Advantages Of A Directional Antenna

By Richard Richardson

This is one kind of an antenna that will radiate power either in one or in a lot of directions. With this, capability, it will generally be allowed on maintaining to increase the performance to transmit and to receive transmissions. Its strength is also being focused and the power is transmitted in only one direction in general, and thus, resulting to an optimized signal strength and minimized signal loss.

Most of these antennas have their ability as well on reducing the interference coming from many sources. Thus, making a directional antenna become the most ideal and popular for use in areas where there are many interference. The interference may usually include some of the transmitting devices such as for weather conditions, some other obstructions, and microwave ovens.

The these antennas have two different classifications such as corner reflector and log periodic. Usually, these directional antennas have been combined are mostly available and used commonly as television antennas that are designed specially for the residential areas. These are also used popularly as cellular repeaters in order to transmit and receive signals when there is normal out of range signals for some cellular phones.

Usually, antenna directions are necessary in order for directional antennas to be set up. There are times when there are wrong directions, and the most possible result would be rendering a useless antenna. So it is recommended to check first the areas before starting the process of installation. Through this, the type of antenna to be used can be determined because you already have an idea on potential sources for both obstruction and for interference.

The direction to where the device is pointing is also a factor that needs to be considered importantly. The device can be most effective if it points towards the nearest source for target signal having the least amount of obstructions and interference. And this is one common reason why the mounting process of this device is often a big issue.

Usually, there are some limitations when it comes to the coverage and this is because one general area has been focused only. In larger areas in which a larger coverage is also needed, the device becomes less effective. Thus, for a larger coverage, omni directional types are being recommended for use instead. Omni types have the ability to transmit and receive signal to several directions.

The best areas for the installation are in outdoors or other open areas such as outside the home. Usually, closed spaces have more obstructions which can generally limit its effectiveness. However, before purchasing these antennas, make sure to consider importantly the advantages and limitations.

One common advantage of this is for security issues. These devices can help in preventing wormhole attacks. These attacks mean that a packet being forwarded from attackers through higher quality out of band links and the packet is then replayed in other locations. Because of this, all the communications maybe disrupted.

Lastly, deafness is a common limitation. Usually, deafness happens if the devices will not be used. Limitations in network performances are also possible. Multiple retransmissions may cause the nodes to be misunderstood between connections because of the triggered mobility and route search, thus, distracting interactions between upper layers.
