Guidelines To Follow When Buying IP Cameras San Antonio

By Jeffrey Brooks

Safety is always a paramount concern when buying or moving into a new home. The thought of being a victim to a break in is bound to send shivers down the spine of any homeowner. Before home security solutions came to be due to technological advancement, the typical homeowner had to make do with a fence and a dog or two. Today, advanced security solutions such as IP cameras San Antonio have taken things to a whole new level.

A typical IP camera is no different from an ordinary surveillance camera, save for its advanced functionality. Its most outstanding feature is its ability to connect to the internet, which explains why it is termed an IP device. With the device, a homeowner can get a live stream of the areas of his property that are under surveillance regardless of his location. The first aspect that you should know about these devices is that they have various form factors. While all of them feature internet connectivity, some are more powerful in other aspects than others.

These days, the most popular option in the market is the smart camera. Besides sending real time videos of surveillance via the internet, it is also equipped with a motion sensor. The sensor alerts the homeowner of any movement that is taking place within the proximity of the device. This essentially means you get to know someone is coming even before they reach your doorstep. This option is always the costliest.

The bullet camera is the other option. It comes in a cylindrical shape and points in a specific direction. Most stores sell it quite affordably. However, the fact that it points in one direction means it has a limited range. As such, you may have to purchase many of them to capture the different areas of your home that you may have in mind. Homeowners like to use this option for the front doors of their houses and gates.

The last option is the dome camera. It is different from the bullet type, in that it features a wider coverage area. Furthermore, it can shift from one surveillance position to another repeatedly. It is pricier than the latter option. Its wide coverage area means you need not install many of them in one location.

With this in mind, one of the most important things to bear in mind when buying a camera is its field of view. It is the one factor that determines how far a device can zoom. As mentioned earlier, a bullet camera does not have a great field of view. If you have plans of monitoring other areas besides your front door, it would be prudent to opt for a camera with a field of view that can support this.

Storage capacity is an important factor to consider too. If you purchase a device that records high definition images, its storage capacity should be able to support the large size of its recordings. Whenever its memory gets exhausted, you may have to delete old footage.

Lastly, you need to factor in cost. The price ranges from $30 for simple devices to $250 for advanced devices. The costly ones are often weatherproof and have wide fields of view.
